Week 6. 2023

Week 6. 2023

The start of the year is always a bit quiet, a time to reset, but as we enter February my calender is starting to fill up more and more. The gorgeous weather we have had recently has also been a big motivator to get out and about more. Just need to remember that it’s only February, and this is most definitely a Fool’s Spring.

The week started in the best way with a long walk around the Bristol Light Festival, this was the festival’s third year. It usually only runs over one weekend, which can lead to the installations being quite busy but this year they chose to run it over two weekends for a total of 10 days. We decided on this basis to head out on Monday night for a wander, and thankfully it wasn’t too busy at all. The premise is that there are light/art installations throughout the city centre, most of which are interactive in some way. They are usually all located quite close to each other. We walked into town, walked around the installations and back home and walked about 5 miles in total. It’s a great motivation for some exercise and, best of all, FREE!

The week also included a trip up to B&Q to get some flowers for our planter at the front of the house. Plants either thrive or die very quickly there, so I have focused more on flowering alpines in the hope that they can survive the sudden weather changes. Currently, in my ignoring the back garden stage, I really need to wait until it’s a bit warmer to spend some days out there. A lot of older plants need digging out, we need to repoint the patio stones and cut down all the hedges. It’s definitely a few days of hard work ahead, and it will be worth it once done. We are actually having some bi-fold doors installed, and it will be so nice to look out onto a clean, tidy garden. Our survey is being done next week and installation should hopefully be around May or June time so we should have them in place for summer.

I finally did the bus journey of dreams this week as well. The 376 to Street. It’s a long one, but it winds up and down the Malvern Hills and is simply stunning, plus it ends at the Clarks Outlet for a bit of shopping. Definitely want to explore that area a bit more and maybe stop off at Wells on the market day because it looked like great fun from the bus. When it’s nicer I would love to walk up Glastonbury Tor which the bus also stops close to. The outlets themselves were a little disappointing, we mostly bought some food items from Hotel Chocolat, Haribo and Cadburys. I did get some cheap underwear I have had my eye on from M&S and a lovely jumper for spring, so not a total waste of a day out.

Next week’s calender is already looking busy with meeting up with friends and another light festival lined up. Cannot wait.
