Week 34. 2023

Week 34. 2023

I’m back in productive mode this week. I actually had a pretty busy week and feel great about it. I started by impulsively deciding at the hairdresser to go from blonde back to brown. I was finding the upkeep of the blonde too hard, the roots showed quickly and it kept yellowing. My hair is naturally light brown so this should make it a lot easier. Plus I do love it. I love summer walks to the hairdressers, we saw a unicorn (obviously not real), the colourful Bristol houses and the lovely harbourside.

This week I have also decided to start exercising. Since my knee injury and lockdown I realised that I move a lot less and this has led to, not only a substantial weight gain but also my exercise levels have dropped. I’m working on this slowly and realistically and learning from previous years. I have started doing some YouTube workouts and really enjoying the channel Grow With Jo. Her workouts are fun and I really appreciate the fact that she doesn’t talk during the workouts. I hate when the instructor tries to motivate, id rather just get on with it thanks. Anyways yeah, it’s going really well, it’s hard and I’m constantly sore but this will ease.

I spent another day organising and sorting out the bedroom which included a very therapeutic hour sat on the floor folding all our underwear into little parcels like I saw on TikTok. I’m in a good place with my wardrobe at the moment, it’s got everything I need and I’m trying to not spend any more money on clothes and re-wear my clothes a lot more. In doing this I’m dinging that I’m definitely reaching for the same things more often so maybe it’s time for another clear out and just live that minimalist life.

Gousto meals have been going well again this week. We had a delicious Butternut Squash and Cashew Coconut Curry, a Chicken and Mushroom Curry Rice and finally the Honey Chicken with Tomato and Pepper Rice Bake. The last one was really nice but not one I would order again, it was quite a lot of faff for an only okay recipe.

The weekend was a Bank Holiday, there are always several festivals happening on any given weekend in Bristol, this weekend we did the East Bristol Brewery Trial. I don’t actually drink beer but most of the places offered alternatives like cider or soft drinks. We started at the further away point, Arbor and walked back home via 5 other breweries. Each place also had at least one food vendor so we ate and drank a lot. It meant that we were never fully intoxicated but had what I guess is called a buzz. It was a really fun afternoon, we ended up walking around 7 miles in total and saw an epic thunderstorm on the way home.

We both woke up tired (hungover)the next morning, a bit later than we had planned but still went ahead with our plans. We got the bus to B&Q and bought a bunch of plants. I don’t know about you but our garden has really suffered this year with the weather. The bus used to go from outside our house directly to the retail park B&Q is on but FirstBus helpfully cancelled that bus so now we walk 15 minutes over a hill to Asda and then the bus stops 10 minutes walk, up another hill to the retail park. It’s a real pain but manageable. We also got the new electric hedge trimmer out and cut back the monster fence, and wow, honestly why did we not have one of these before? It was like slicing through butter. We planted up the new flowers and tidied up the cuttings then called it a day. Both exhausted and sore but pleased with how much we have actually achieved.

TV this week:

  • The Bear, we have finally finished the first season of this. So good. Highly recommend.
  • Dungeons and Dragons Film. Hmm, I’m not sure what to say about this. It wasn’t awful but honestly, it wasn’t great.
  • Below Deck Down Under. We are being genuinely spoiled with 2 episodes a week. Love
  • Greatest Days. As a massive Take That fan, I had high expectations but this film did not hit. It was a really sad film and not the feel-good one I had assumed.
