I used this week to try and get back into some sort of routine, that meant back on the Gousto meals, getting the garden sorted out and uploading a load of stuff to Vinted. The weather has finally been nice enough to get out and do some planting and also to actually eat out and make use of our new bistro set. It’s this time of the year that I love the evenings, Golden hour seems to last forever and Bristol really comes alive at night. We had to pop into town and walked back during golden hour and it was stunning. So lucky that all this is on my doorstep. I can’t wait until we get the added delight of the balloons in the sky soon, definitely seems like there have been fewer this year so far.
At the end of the week, we travelled to the North to stay with my parents for a few days. This was booked before the rail strikes were announced but luckily they were still running enough trains to get us up there. In fact, this was one of the nicest journeys we have made. The trains were empty, there were maybe four other people in the carriage with us and all the trains ran on time.
It was a pretty chilled time in Lancashire with my parents, we had a walk around Clitheroe and the castle. We have driven through Clitheroe a few times but have never been to see the castle or the main shopping street previously. It was very cute with lots of little independent stores and cafes (expensive). The views from the castle are great as you can see far out into the Lancashire countryside and later we stopped at the market on the way home to pick up a few bits for a BBQ with some family friends. We were very lucky with the weather for the entire weekend.
On our second day there we went for a walk around Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve and the weather could not have been more perfect. Lovely sunny day, with blue skies but not ridiculously hot. The lake was full of all sorts of birds like geese, ducks and moorhens. It is a short walk around the lake but really nice and we took a little shop picnic with us to enjoy for lunch. Some of the geese there had goslings and like geese are normally quite aggressive with their young aren’t they? But these DNGAF. Some kids came along with food and they all came right up to us, totally unbothered. I actually made a cute reel about this day out on my Instagram.
Trips up North always fly by, before we knew it we were back on the train home. Another pretty easy journey actually. It won’t be too long until we are back for my dad’s 70th in July.
