The pre-travel week is always a funny one. I find that I don’t like making many plans because, for some reason in my head, I need a week to prepare, and yet always, and I mean always, leave the packing till 10 pm the night before. So yeah, this is a quiet week. I watched some TV and films and went to town for a few returns.
I wanted to get my returns done earlier in the week so that they were dusted. I got a few things from Primark that either didn’t fit or, once I tried them on, realised they weren’t for me. At the point of writing this blog we had a local bus service, this was its last week, and I use it all the time for quick trips like this into town. From the 2nd of April I either have to walk 10 minutes in the opposite direction for a long bus journey or up a steep hill to get the other local bus. It’s not great, and I’m not happy about it, but what can I do? Anyway I was laser focused in town, managed to get around Primark, do my returns, and get the same bus home. (They are one an hour). I impressed myself with how efficient I was.
Regarding TV, I managed to get through a few more films. I watched Maid in Manhattan for maybe the 5th time? Classic film. And I also watched The Fall, which was a lot better than I was expecting and featured quite a good twist I didn’t see coming. However, I have questions about the ending…spoilers coming up. How did they get her down? Like it wasn’t the helicopter because surely that would have taken her straight to the hospital and not set her back down on the ground. There’s no way a ladder could have reached that height either. Anyways that infuriated me but other than that, a good film.
This week I also watched a lot of Pedro Pascal. We finished Last of Us (so good) and started the new season of The Mandalorian. Both are excellent shows. Another show that surprised me was Our Flag Means Death. The first few episodes were a slog. We almost gave up on it but the payback was absolutely worth our perseverance. That being said, the build-up to the excellent stuff was too long and I hope they address that issue with the second season. It ended on a cliffhanger, so I was pleased to see it’s been picked up again.
The week ended with us packing up and heading to the airport hotel for a night’s sleep. This isn’t something we would typically do, but our flight out was at 7:20 am and it meant we got a couple of hours more sleep than if we had relied on the Airport Flyer. The hotel was lovely, which it should have been for the price. It’s easily walkable to the terminal and has its own undercover walkway for about half the distance. When we arrived we popped into the airport terminal and picked up a drink and some snacks from M&S which we enjoyed before turning in for an early night.
